Environmental Specialist, City of San Diego

Ana Carvalho, MS is an Environmental Specialist with the City of San Diego, leading the implementation of its commercial food waste diversion and food scraps composting program, recognized with the National Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Food Recovery Challenge Award under the Education Outreach Category in 2016, and for Leadership in 2017. The Program includes large generators such as the San Diego International Airport, Sea World, Convention Center, Petco Park Stadium, universities’ campuses, hotels, grocery stores, hospitals, schools, corporations, and several medium and small restaurants. Ana was responsible for the implementation of the first commercial food waste route collection in the San Diego County. She has also assisted the EPA in the implementation of a commercial composting facility in Tijuana-Mexico.

Business Recycling Specialist, Hennepin County Department of Environment and Energy

Amy Maas is a Business Recycling Specialist at Hennepin County’s Department of Environment and Energy. She works on recycling and waste-reduction initiatives with businesses and residents. She has a degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She first stepped into the waste world as a MN GreenCorps member at the U of M working on developing a zero-waste program for the school’s football stadium. Outside of work, she enjoys biking, gardening and taking too many pictures of homegrown vegetables and her cat.

Denice E. Curry

Acting Section Manager, Recycling Section, Prince George's County Department of the Environment - Resource Recovery Division

Ms. Curry has been a public servant in Prince George’s County government for thirty years. Her early tenure included a variety of specialties and positions, among them; television production, where she produced and directed award winning environmental programming for cablecast on the County’s government and public access channels.  She has supervised activities within the Resource Recovery Division’s Collection Unit, managed the operations of the County’s Organics Composting Facility, designed and developed successful engagement campaigns relative to the Recycling Sections’ programs and events. Currently serving as the Acting Section Manager, Denice oversees the staff, budget, programs and facilities within the Recycling Section. Among her accomplishments is the successful application and implementation of an EPA grant funded, yearlong residential food scrap collection pilot project.

Charlotte Dreizen

Moderator, Project Manager, SPC

Charlotte Dreizen is a Project Manager at GreenBlue and leads the Composting Collaborative and compostable packaging work at the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. In the last 18 months, the Composting Collaborative has spearheaded research in pretreatment systems and composting access, as well as convened three in-person summits and kicked off a monthly webinar series. In addition, Charlotte co-developed the new Essentials of Sustainable Packaging course and has spoken at events like the New York City Food Waste Fair and the Green Sports Alliance Summit on organics recycling strategies. She holds a BA in International Affairs from the George Washington University with dual concentrations in International Development and International Environmental Studies. Charlotte is also a LEED Green Associate and has earned Living Future Accreditation through the International Living Future Institute.
