Pretreatment Directory
Food waste has become a national concern because it has multiple impacts: loss of nutrients for people and animals, a wasted source of valuable soil nutrients or energy, and the primary contributor of methane emissions from landfills. An important strategy for managing these nutrients more sustainably is to convert them into sources of alternative energy and as inputs for more fertile soils.
The Composting Collaborative’s Pretreatment Directory is a partial listing of systems currently available in the market that have the potential to scale the amount of unavoidable food waste that can be put to more beneficial uses. Read more about the opportunities and challenges of pretreatment systems.
